The Campo de Oeste program will
be exploring alternative energy options through a series of activities
and experimental demonstrations. Participants will learn about wind,
solar and other green technologies and how they can help us better
care for our resources. Through a collaborative effort the group will
develop their own innovative strategies to utilize these technologies
in a typical urban enviroment. Campo Urbano will incorporate these
strategies into the everyday life of the ranch to demonstrate the
effect each effort has on off-setting our impact on the environment.
Campo Urbano now has it's first Rain Water Harvesting Cistern! Our awesome Ranch Hands turned a used culvert into a catchment system that will collect about 700 gallons of water from the Ranch Guest House. Now onto the other roofs!
The Ranch has recently installed a grey water system for the washer. Laundry is now done using bio-friendly detergent and seems to be keeping the cactus outside very happy and plump.
Campo de Oeste is an experiential environmental education program for Tucson youth ages 10-14 that: Provides
a natural learning environment based on the principles of eco-psychology,
Promotes leadership, personal development, and conservation with a
low youth-mentor/ student ratio and fosters a fun, supportive environment
where young people come together and are motivated to learn about
pertinent issues (environmental, animal and humanitarian). Call (520) 622-3933 today to register for our June 2010 session.Click
